The Seminole Tribe traded with the early pioneers of the Everglades area for many years, especially with the Storters in Everglades City and Ted Smallwood in Chokoloskee. The tribe was instrumental in assisting with the route through the Everglades as Barron Collier was completing the final section between Naples and Miami, and they participated in the celebration of the opening of the Tamiami Trail on April 26, 1928.
