What We Do

ESHP (The Everglades Society for Historic Preservation) was founded in 2004. Our territory of interest includes Everglades City, Plantation Island, Chokoloskee, Ochopee, Copeland & Lee Cypress, and Jerome.

Our vision is to rehabilitate the Collier-era Bank of Everglades Building and provide a new and vital Visitor Center which is currently housed across from the Bank Building and operated by ESHP, primarily with volunteers, as an expression of its community outreach and education goals.

Historic Preservation

Renovation, Education, & Restoration

Currently, our primary activities include the renovation of the Bank of Everglades Building, the operation of the Everglades Area Visitor Center, and the maintenance of a historical library with books and artifacts, as well as an ongoing effort to preserve historic sites and structures in our area.

Several of our Board members were the founders of ESHP in 2004 and have wide-ranging knowledge of our history and culture. The experience of our Board is extensive and diversified. ESHP is a tremendous resource for those who wish to learn more about our past and our vision for the future.
