The Calusa Tribe, then the Seminoles, were the first people of this area, trading with the early pioneers. They farmed along Potato Creek (now the Barron River) and traded goods at the G W
Storter General Store (now the Rod & Gun Club). The Seminoles were instrumental in the completion of the Tamiami Trail and have been a part of the Everglades area community.
