Sportfishing has always been an important industry in the Everglades area. Cottages on the west bank of the Barron River were built by
fishing guides from Chokoloskee to be closer to their anglers staying at the Rod & Gun Club. In the 1950s and 1960s the cottages were
occupied by Charley Boggess, one of the area’s foremost guides, and his extended family. The banner is a photo of the sportfishermen at the
Rod & Gun Club.
