Hiking is one of the best ways to experience the greater Everglades area, especially in the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park, the largest state park in Florida. Visitors can take a swamp walk through the waters with the Friends of the Fakahatchee who offer tours during the fall/winter/spring season or walk along the trams off of Janes Scenic Drive. Everglades City was designated a Florida State Trail Town by the Florida Greenways & Trails Council in 2019 and is the hub for seven national and state parks and preserves with wonderful trails to hike, bike, and paddle.
