The Everglades Inn, a two-story building completed in 1924, was on the corner of Broadway and Allen Avenue.
This site was the home of William Smith Allen who settled here in the early 1870s.
On April 26, 1928, a parade was held in Everglades City celebrating the opening of the Tamiami Trail, an extraordinary feat which joined the 284-mile route between Tampa and Miami.
Founded by Barron Collier, the Bank received its charter in 1923, serving as the only bank in Collier County for 26 years.
Originally a commercial laundry, this building was an integral part of Collier’s business empire – providing uniforms and linens for the Rod & Gun Club and the Everglades Inn.
There were 42 charter members, and the event was celebrated with a dinner at the Rod and Gun Club in Everglades City.
In 1939 the Collier Corporation offered land on the Circle in Everglades City for a building with the condition that the church be completed by October 1940.
