The Everglades Inn, a two-story building completed in 1924, was on the corner of Broadway and Allen Avenue. A third floor was added in 1928, providing 45 guest rooms. The first floor housed the department store The Manhattan Mercantile, the largest in south Florida at the time. A fire destroyed the building in 1987. Today it serves as a parking lot for the Glades Building across the street.
