The original building was used as a recreational center for the workers who built the Tamiami Trail. The facility included a bowling alley and pool hall and was located on DuPont until it was moved after the 1926 Hurricane. It served as a boarding house for the workers and eventually a Bed & Breakfast; now the Ivey House is a boutique hotel.
